Theres a new wrinkle in the rules for the 2026 season and it may be a welcome change for many teams. According to the series owner Caley Emerson, the 2026 Northern Renegade Tire Rules have been amended to not only have teams racing for start money and having to run the same rear tire all night if they put on a new one, now they will only be allowed the use of 5 new Right rear tires per season.
“This change is in direct response to the rising costs of racing“ Emerson said in a statement Saturday. “This will allow our teams who are in the budget process to know exactly what they are allowed to spend. It also lets all the teams know that we take their expenses very seriously and are going to make every effort to contain them.“
When asked on the exact wording and limits the rules will allow Emerson had this to say - “I think the wording is broken down into bullet points. The teams know what model of Hoosier tires they must have in order to bolt on brand new ones. Really the change isn’t to how we administered the rule before- meaning if you choose to use a brand new right rear tire it must be used all night long during that event and you will only receive starting money even if you win. The difference now is every team must have their rear tires marked by a series official at the beginning of each event. This allows us to inspect each tire to determine if it‘s new. Teams using a new tire will be marked down counting against their total allowed for the season. The cap for our roughly 21 show Northern Renegade season is 5 new right rear tires total. Teams of course are allowed as always to use previously run tires anytime and for full pay.“
And what if the tires are showing unusual or excessive wear? “We will be monitoring each event for excessive tire wear. We have a new clause in our contract that helps us to get the tracks to keep more moisture in or to farm the track for us if needed. If for some reason we see the tire’s have worn excessively on the whole field, we may choose to add additional tires, but the goal is to hold them to the amount set in the rules.“
“We hope this willl encourage growth for our program as everyone knows exactly what they are up against. We keep our races shorter (to limit wear) and I really don’t believe that a used tire is any disadvantage as long as it has tread and blocks left. Hoosier makes great tires! But often it seems we are fighting the perception as much as reality. This way you know that a guy can’t just keep buying a perceived adavantage. I also think that it will help Hoosier in the long run as many teams like my own will budget for what we are allowed. Instead of buying when we have to because its too late to have a used one shipped in, we know how many are allowed and maybe we can get a sponsor to make that investment because its not an open ended deal.“
”We are also hopeful that that other series will see the value in this policy and it will become uniform for all the Renegade platforms. The Diamond Series will have a similar rule.“ Emerson added.
Like it or not, the higher costs are likely here to stay so the Northern Renegades seem poised to make changes as needed in the name of protecting its racers.

Formerly known as the High Roller Sprint Car Series, the new and much improved Diamond Sprint Car Series features more than just a name change.
”The former name and logo could come off that the competitors are big budget teams, and to some, that could be considered gloating.“ remarked Darin Short Marketing Agent for the new Series.
“The new name I came up with doesn’t have any of that connotation or potentially mimicking the High Limit High Rollers .The new name focuses on the prize: winning the series championship, which will award the winner a championship - size diamond ring. This way it’s not about a trophy that gathers dust in some room, and this driver can wear it in public, garnering attention, and as a conversation starter for their accomplishment. So it has a practical purpose. The rebranded name for the series ties directly to this championship title hunt throughout the season: Diamond Sprint Car Series. The new logo is very contemporary, no one in racing has anything like it, and its very unique, It will work great on letterhead, merchandizing, the series website (coming soon) and pretty much wherever you would like to use it.“ he commented on Dec 5th in a text message.
More exciting details will be announced soon regarding the Series. Keep an eye on FB for the name change to the former High Roller page and for updates.
